Scholarly Video Journal Article
In this art-sy research journal-style documentary, we delve into the world of the Norwegian Kulturskole, a thriving municipal Culture School known for music and performing arts. While scholars have explored leadership, teachers, and inclusion/exclusion in this context, one perspective has been largely overlooked: that of the students. Join us on a journey of discovery as a dedicated teacher sets out to understand the profound impact of the Kulturskole on pupils’ lives. Through the eyes of four students, their dance teacher, and a passionate PhD candidate, we witness a five-month collaboration that uncovers the essence of self-expressiveness, togetherness, and perfor-managing in the learning process. This groundbreaking study introduces new materialist perspectives, shedding light on the Kulturskole’s transformative influence on young lives and youth-centered research
We contribute heavily in this production with bespoke music and score mixing, delivered in stereo, co-narrating the story by creating sonic landscapes highlighting what’s between the lines. In addition, we also provided sound editing (foley, design, editing, restoration) and re-recording mixing. On this project, we also edited and graded the visuals of the video.

Title: Kallet (The Calling)
Documentary
A documentary about a missionary who went to Ethiopia at the beginning of the 60s, and stayed through war, tumults and coup d’état. Today, Ottar Kiplesund is 82 years old and still revisits the country where he spent most of his adult life. Following the communist militia Derg’s coup d’état, the family was sent home, but Ottar stayed to keep the missionary base operative. He was there for the coup on emperor Haile Selassie, met with HRH King Olav of Norway during his state visit in 1966 and, today, two of his sons run a hospital in the capitol.
We contribute with bespoke orchestral music and score mixing, delivered in surround formats, capturing the emotional core of the narrative and bringing Western audiences closer to Ethiopian culture.

We delve into the profound world of artistic exploration as we accompany a dedicated researcher on their journey to decipher the essence of ‘Dido’s Lament’ from Henry Purcell and Nahum Tate’s opera, ‘Dido and Aeneas.’ Drawing inspiration from Ben Spatz’s concept of embodied research, we witness a captivating process of inquiry into the capabilities of the human body. Through meticulous historical research, personal analysis, and years of practice, the researcher internalizes and expresses this centuries-old composition through movement, song, and emotion. This Early Modern masterpiece, once considered a static artifact, now comes alive as a dynamic, multi-dimensional experience. Through the lens of Nina Eidsheim’s ‘thick sonic event,’ we witness an attempt to unravel deeply ingrained performance traditions, hierarchies, and soundscapes. Can embodied research challenge these norms and provide a more authentic, multifaceted understanding of this iconic piece of music? Join us on a journey of discovery and transformation as we explore the boundaries of artistic expression and interpretation.
